Polarization imaging navigation is more accurate and has stronger anti-interference capacities than point source polarization navigation sensors which use photodiodes.Effective algorithms are needed for polarization imaging navigation. The effect of the solar meridian in the projection of the polarized skylight pattern on the sensor is analyzed to show that the solar meridian is the only line on which points only have a polarization angle of 90°.The characteristics of the solar meridian are used to develop a solar azimuth algorithm using polarization imaging.Tests of its performance using a polarization imaging platform show that its azimuth precision is better than 0.074°(3σ).
