Study on the Dynamic Changes of the Content of Total Flavonoids and Total Polyphenol and the Antioxidant Activity of Litsea coreana Levl. var. Lanuginosa

The changes of total flavonoids and total polyphenol content in the Hawk Tea (Litsea coreana Levl. var. lanuginosa) and its antioxidant activity with the seasons was studied. The absorbance readings of the Hawk Tea samples, which were collected from March to August regularly, were taken at 510 nm and 753 nm after colored, respectively. And then, the content of total flavonoids and total polyphenol was calculated by comparison with a standard curve generated by analyzing rutin or gallic acid. At the same time, the EC50 value of the Hawk Tea samples in different months were calculated after determination of its DPPH free radical clearance rate. Finally, The Pearson correlation among total flavonoids, total polyphenol and EC50 value were calculated using SPSS software. The content of total flavonoids in the Hawk Tea from March to May (17.96%-21.81%) was higher than tnat from June to August (12.05%-13.64%), and in May was the highest. The total polyphenol content of the Hawk Tea from March to May (8.03%-8.15%) was higher than that from June to August (5.96%-6.16%), and in March was the highest. The antioxidant activity of the Hawk Tea in March (5.293 μg·m L-1) was best, and the activity decreased from March to August. There is no significant relevance between EC50 value and total flavonoids content in the Hawk Tea, but significant negative relevance between EC50 value and the total polyphenol content of the Hawk Tea (P0.05). Total polyphenol is the main antioxidant material in the Hawk Tea. Therefore, the period from March to May each year was recommended as the harvest time and the best month is March.
