Application of Crowd Simulation in Gymnasium Egress Design

Liu Ying;Xing Kai;
Gymnasium is an public assembly occupancy holding large indoor sports competitions and other public activities.The egress design is therefore crucial for ensuring life safety of large numbers of occupants.This study illustrates the effect of virtual crowd simulation on the performance evaluation of building safe evacuation by modelling methods and technologies.It adopts Simulex to simulate the crowd evacuation from a medium-sized gymnasium,which reveals existing problems in egress routes,and puts forward some design suggestions to optimize the routes and improve the evacuation performance.
